Launching NFC-Enabled Wine Bottles Across The US For Böen Wines

Böen Wines

SharpEnd delivered one of the world’s largest ever rollouts of connected packaging (via Near Field Communication) for US Wine Brand, Böen. As the first phase of a long-term connected strategy, grounded in consumer insights, we’ve launched an interactive farmhouse that consumers unlock simply by tapping the NFC-enabled caps.

Böen engaged SharpEnd as the strategic and creative innovation partner to establish the connected strategy for Böen. Delivering on the first phase of this strategy and supporting an ambitious brand launch, we defined, developed and launched a world class connected user experience and rolled out connected products across the US. This included technology landscaping, experience planning and content development.

The activity utilises SharpEnd’s io.tt connected packaging management platform to deliver real-time insights, campaign management tools and dynamic content based on pre or post purchase behaviours. In an industry first, the NFC technology was integrated into the bottle cap, using a patented closure and  the ‘Tap our Cap’ call-to-action. Simply by tapping the bottle’s cap (the e-WAK from Guala Closures) with a smartphone, users authenticate their product and are then transported to a Californian farmhouse to unlock information about the wine they are purchasing, create and share content as well as build their own virtual wine cellar.
